Meet Katie

Dear neighbors,

My name is Katie Boss, and I am running for Auburn City Council (At Large) this year. Every voter will be able to pick two at-large candidates. I would appreciate your vote on November 5th and here’s why: I love this community and I am eager to work together with all Auburn residents to build on our strengths and realize our potential. Local government affects all of us every day, from the value of our homes, to the education available to our children, the quality of the water we drink, and the safety of our roadways and community. I am also running for City Council because I’ve talked to many people who feel disconnected from the key decisions that shape our city, and feel that their voices go unheard.

That needs to change.

I am a collaborative leader with experience bringing people with different perspectives together to build consensus and get things done. I am committed to using information rather than ideology to make decisions. I believe the best way to get good information about a community is by listening to those who know it best -- the residents. Building strong communities is not straightforward. It takes people at the helm who are willing to patiently listen, consider all available options, and envision a better version of our community. I am up for that challenge.

As a public health practitioner, I work with people from a wide range of perspectives on complex issues such as creating access to healthy food, safe homes, and physical activity opportunities. I manage major federal and state grants and I am responsible for balancing large budgets and building teams. Most importantly, the work that I do everyday is supporting people and building strong communities.

I was born and raised in Maine where I came to value city centers with a small-town feel, downtowns lined with old brick buildings, local businesses where you’re known by name, and easy access to wide open country-side. I met my husband Sam in high school, and though we spent a decade living out of state for school and work, we always knew that when started our family we would want to put down our roots in Maine.

We landed in Auburn and knew immediately that it was home. Within a 10 minute drive from our downtown house, we can go hiking, skiing, or fishing, buy produce at a farm, enjoy a community concert, grab a local ice cream or sample a craft beer. You can find me walking my dog, puttering in my backyard garden, biking with my two young children, and attending community events where we often talk about how to improve upon what’s already so great about Auburn.

I fell in love with this city and it’s people, and made the decision to build my family’s future here. I hope you will put your trust in me as your voice in city government, in the same way that we have put our trust in this great community.
